Class Teacher

About us: Welcome to Blue Class. We are the upper keystage (Y5 & 6) children at Breage School and this Summer term our learning will be steered by two enquiry questions: 'What is life like in a desert?' and 'Why did the Olympics originate in Greece?'. This guides much of our project and topic learning as well as giving us direction in some of the texts we read and the writing we complete. In addition to a learning-rich, forward-thinking curriculum and teaching approach, we aim to give the children as many opportunities to be active and interactive throughout their lessons too.

Homework: In Blue class, children are expected to read at least 4 times a week, practise their weekly spellings (set and test on Monday) and to complete a consolidation maths task weekly. This will be set online but can be printed also.

Reading: Reading is a lifelong skill that we all try to develop as your child continues their journey through our school. We are keen to develop a love of books and escapism as early as possible and we have a wide range of books for the children to choose from. We do have in-school reward systems which also aim to incentivise the expected reading at home. We would greatly appreciate your support with this new initiative, not only by listening to your child read but by perhaps sharing some of your favourite books from your childhood with them too.

Maths: Breage C of E school has invested in ‘Timestables Rockstars’, an online resource for learners to practise their multiplication skills. This will enable children to become more fluent in their multiplication tables and effortless recall (a crucial skill which aids in problem solving for the future). Children also have Sumdog login details which they can practise maths skills.

PE days will usually take place on Wednesday and children are to wear PE kit to school on these days please.
